‘most of the 150 crew never know where they are or where they have been’
Trident Nuclear Programme, Wikipedia
You are lost at sea
wondering whether to push the button.
The radio went down four hours ago.
You did not hear the end
of The Archers.
No message was relayed
from Whitehall.
You feared the worst.
They took the keys to the safe,
gave you the Letter of Last Resort.
You read with captive eyes
the decision is yours:
to fire from who knows where
at who knows what,
never to return from anywhere,
to be forever lost.
You are not lost yet.
I am calling you back to Loch Long.

To fire a nuclear missile you need blind faith in your leaders and a conscience that doesn’t care 😦

Nothing like investing your funds in a weapon that you dare not use, or add nuclear winter to the other fun things that it would create on top of the radiation. The host countries would not even have time to have an end of the world party. Here in the US, we out spend the next 5 countries together on alleged national defense. Ah but think of the profits in making those weapons, not to mention their replacements over the year. One big war might bring it all to an end, but until then, it is literally money in the bank and then some. As for your descendants, if any exist, their survival is their problem, you got very rich.

I could think of better things to spend the money on. It made me both angry and dad when I realised the warmongers controlled Westminster.
